Good news and better news

Good news 1: The Way of Shadows has already gone back to press in both the US and the UK. This means they’re selling better than expected (or at least better than they feared). So, thank you to YOU, because this leads to…

Good news 2: Orbit has offered–and I have accepted–another three book deal! I’m not a one hit wonder! (Err, three hit wonder? Err, three pretty-well-performing midlister?) Regardless, I’m going to be writing a new trilogy (I think) set in a completely new world, new magic, with great conflict and impossible dilemmas, and characters that will keep surprising you (I hope). I do plan to return to Midcyru after this series. I just decided that I’m not ready as a writer to pull off the ambitious project I envision there. So if your favorite character is still alive by the end of Beyond the Shadows (muhahah), you MIGHT get to see them again…

So, thank you!

YAY!! Congrats! I think everyone is worried that there may be nothing more after the Night Angel Trilogy. It’s awesome that you get to write more books! I’ll miss Midcyru for a while but it will be worth the wait ^^ I look forward to reading your new books!

Reading has never been the same after Shadow’s Edge. I will stare through bookstore windows until my psychic abilities make them stock their shelves a week early with Beyond the Shadows. (yeah right that never works)

    congrats agaaain~

*jumps up and down in euphoric glee* Oh, that is awesome news! :D You’re too good to waste on just three books!

    Just, please, please, please don’t turn into another Erin Hunter, with a good story but you keep on going on and on and losing your edge and you start to hate the characters… >>;

I finished Beyond the Shadows today, my local B&N had it in stock yesterday afternoon. Killer stuff man, it will be quite a wait for your next set of releases. I’m just glad I didn’t have to actually wait until December to finish the Night Angel Trilogy. :P

Congrats! I can’t wait to see what this new series has to hold. I am also glad to know that we have not seen the end of Midcyru just yet.

Nearly finished book 1 and have book two standing by. Really loving the series so far.
Nice to finally find an example of this sort of fantasy that doesn’t lose itself a bit towared the end.

Congrats are in order. I do believe that Shadow’s Edge and Beyond the Shadows are destined for additional printings as well. I am in the middle of Beyond the Shadows as I write this, and am I impressed. I am looking forward to reading what you have in store for us. It is nice to have an author out there who is as personable and entertaining as you are.

    Wow that’s good to hear!
I finished the second book just now, and I don’t know how I can survive to wait until the third book is available in the store.
The story you created is amazing, makes my eyes glued to every word of it.
I’ll certainly hunt all of your new books. I love it that your trilogy is out just one month in between.

I’ve been reading Sci-Fi/Fantasy for 30 years now and it is always a Great pleasure to find a writer with such engaging characters and a fascinating new world to learn about.

I believe I read each book within several days of their release and am very pleased that Orbit recognized the talent they’ve got in you.

Congratulations and I am looking forward to your new series as well as the “return” to explorations of Midcyru.

Thanks, everyone. Right now, I’m on a book-a-year schedule. I wish I could write fast enough to have a book come out every month! Of course, if I did, they wouldn’t be that good, so I hope the quality makes up for the lack in quantity. And of course, without all of you buying my books and telling friends about them, this wouldn’t be happening, so thank you.

That is good to hear that there may be a return to Midcyru.I’ve been reading from the age of 8. Iam 17 and have read 500 or more books. and I love this series they have to be my favorite book’s.gogd luck to you brent

Brent, I have to say that it is difficult for me to switch to new authors. I’m pretty loyal to my small group (Feist, Eddings, Lumley, Goodkind, and Butcher to name a few), but it’s too painful to wait for new books. So last weekend I found the Night Angels trilogy at Borders and I’m a big fan now. Kylar and Durzo are some of my favorite characters. I love that the whole trilogy was released in a short time, and I didn’t have to wait two years to finish the story. Not that the story is over…I can see there is so much more to explore.
Congratulations, on your success. I will be looking forward to your next books for sure!

    Take care, Josh

  14. December 5th, 2008 at 5:00 am Terry says:

Brent, what do you mean “Might” return to Midcyru…. you had damn well better LOL.
Just read all 3 books in a week. Could not put them down! I read about 2 or 3 books a week, mostly fantasy, some series like Magician I have read and reread numerous occasions. You can be sure I will be rereading Shadows again and again. Nice to hear you will be doing a whole new series, but please, please return to Midcyru as soon as possible. Can’t wait. All in all the most exciting series I have read this year. All the best for the future… Terry

On my way to the bookstore to pick up vol 2 and 3 of the night angel trilogy. Thank you for a good read. Love the characters, the suspense and depth of story. Best of all - all three books are out at once. It is terrible to have to wait for a year or two for the next part of the story. I would rather wait 3 years and then have all of a trilogy come out at once. fyi for your demographics I am a 64 year old woman who has been reading science fiction since high school. Thanks for the fresh new voice even if it is fantasy! Margo

    Hi Brent!
My son (15) stumbled upon your first book in Borders and loved it. I bought him the next two for Christmas and ended up giving them to him early because he was so excited to read them. He plowed through them in a matter of 3 days. He will be so thrilled when I tell him you have another series coming out!

Thank you so much for your great writing style that captivates your readers and leaves them wanting more! :) Who knew you are from Oregon too, I will have to tell my son that tidbit too!

    Merry Christmas!

  17. December 21st, 2008 at 10:19 pm Caro says:

Yes! Yes! YES!!! I was VERY disappointed when I read the ending of the 3rd book! IT SHOULD NOT END YET! NOOO! It was not even a good ending either, I was like h0mg… it can’t end! I fully expect the next books to be non-Azoth centered, or I will only hunt for Azoth’s parts and leave it without buying. I don’t like side-stories.

Now, please listen to me… Fumble through the new 3 books deal, make it fast. Finish it within a year please. At this rate, I won’t be able to read about my sweetheart Azoth and Acelus for another 4-5 years and I don’t like it one bit. What if I die before you even publish the 4th book (or 1st of the 2nd trilogy).

Okay, I’m sorry for my insensitiveness and bluntness. I just love the Night Angel books and it pains me to realize it will be a long time before I am able to read more. I just want to let you know that.

  18. December 22nd, 2008 at 8:05 pm Caro says:

Woops, sorry. In my previous comment, I said “I fully expect the next books to be non-Azoth centered”

I meant Azoth centered, not non-Azoth.

  19. December 26th, 2008 at 3:11 pm Caro's Sis says:

Congratulations. This book is one of the best I’ve read, and I can’t wait until you come out with a fourth one. I just hope it won’t be too long from now, I miss my fav characters already and I finished the third book less than an hour ago.
I’ll be looking in on your new triology, hoping it’s as good as the Night Angel series. To be honest, I wish you’d make the new triology the sequel to the Night Angel triology.. like Robin Hobb’s Assasin’s Apprentice. I personally hope Kylar’s training isn’t over yet, my favorite parts are when Kylar is training or doing some stupid thing and having people like Momma K and Blint and others rescue him.
Again, congratulations on your new deal with Orbit and with these three well written books that captivate the reader from beginning to end. (Caro didn’t sleep for two days reading..)

Can’t wait for the new series. The Night Angel series was by far the best books I have ever read. I couldn’t stop reading them once I picked them up. Finished them all in 3 or 4 days. Keep up the good work.

I have finished all 3 books. I can’t wait for the new series. I am dying to know that how Kylar and Vi will go on. Plz make the Night Angel series better, longer and faster. It is really wonderful series.
